Celebrating Icons Of Impact: Self-eSTEM’s Adamaka Ajaelo Honored At The 2022 Comcast Black Joy Parade
On February 27, 2022, the streets of Oakland came alive as the Black Joy Parade returned celebrating culture, community, and resilience. Among the highlights was Comcast’s Icons Among Us float, honoring three transformative leaders, including Adamaka Ajaelo, founder of Self-eSTEM. Adamaka was recognized for her groundbreaking work in bridging opportunity gaps for girls and young women of color in STEM. As the driving force behind Self-eSTEM, Adamaka has helped empower over 1,200 girls through technical training, leadership development, and mentorship programs.
Honoring Black Excellence In STEM
Comcast awarded Adamaka with a $5,000 contribution to support Self-eSTEM’s mission. Her fellow honorees, LaNiece Jones and Milan Balinton, were also recognized for their longstanding commitment to community advocacy and leadership. In a powerful show of support, Comcast also provided brand-new laptops to young women in Self-eSTEM’s programs; an investment in their futures and a step toward closing the digital divide.
