Summer in Oakland means one thing: it’s time for LakeFest at Lake Merritt , and this year, Self-eSTEM will be right there in the middle of it all. On Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, we’re bringing our mission to the lakefront, and we’d love for you to be part of it

Come Spend the Day at the Lake

LakeFest is one of Oakland’s most joyful community gatherings, and there’s something for everyone. Bring your family, grab some food, enjoy the music, soak up the sunshine, and reconnect with your neighbors. It’s a full day of community, culture, and celebration along the water, and we hope you’ll make a day of it.

Stop By Our Booth

While you’re there, make sure you visit the Self-eSTEM booth, we promise it’ll be one of the most fun (and eye-opening) stops of your day.

We’ve created an interactive challenge we’re calling “Break the AI.” In just a few minutes, you’ll put your critical-thinking skills to the test: can you tell what’s real from what artificial intelligence made up? AI can sound confident and still be completely wrong, and we’ll show you exactly how that happens, why it matters, and how we teach young people to think critically, verify information, and use technology responsibly.

It’s quick, it’s interactive, and yes, there are prizes. Take the challenge, learn something surprising, and discover how Self-eSTEM is preparing underserved youth to lead the Future of Work through STEM education, AI literacy, and mentorship.

We’d Love Your Help, Even Just for a Few Hours

Here’s where we could really use you. Running a booth from open to close takes a village, and we’re inviting our community to volunteer with us at the table for even a couple of hours on event day. Already planning to come to LakeFest? Perfect, swing by our booth and give us a little of your time while you’re already there.

Whether you can give us a full shift or just a short stretch of your afternoon, your time would mean the world. You will help welcome visitors, run the AI Challenge, hand out goodies, and share the Self-eSTEM mission with the community.
