Kamayah joined Self-eSTEM in the 6th grade and grew from a shy student into a confident communicator, researcher, and leader. Now a college sophomore at Howard University, she continues to apply the skills and self-belief she gained through years of mentorship and hands-on STEM experiences.
Kamayah’s journey with Self-eSTEM began in 2016, when she was just a sixth grader discovering her voice and potential. Shy at first and unsure of how she fit into the world of STEM, she quickly found a space where she could grow supported by mentors who saw her brilliance before she did.
Through years of engaging STEM projects, team-based challenges, and public speaking opportunities, Kamayah experienced a transformation. What once felt intimidating like sharing ideas in front of others became a space where she could lead with confidence. “The mentors actually empower the young girls to become more confident in themselves and more confident in the things that they’re learning,” she shared, reflecting on how much the environment contributed to her growth.
From learning how to collaborate effectively to mastering the skills of research and data collection, Kamayah credits Self-eSTEM with shaping not only her academic abilities, but also her belief in herself. The young girl who once hesitated to speak now stands strong—ready to use her voice in rooms that matter.
Today, Kamayah is a college sophomore at Howard University, continuing her academic journey with the same confidence and curiosity that Self-eSTEM helped her develop. Her story is a powerful reminder that when young girls are given the tools, support, and representation they deserve, their potential is limitless.
Your support fuels the confidence, curiosity, and leadership of girls who are often overlooked in traditional educational spaces. By investing in Self-eSTEM’s mission, you’re creating access, opportunity, and community for the next generation of innovators.
