As we approach the end of another remarkable year, we find ourselves filled with gratitude and excitement at Self-eSTEM. The past twelve months have been a journey of empowerment, education, and community building, and we can’t wait to share the incredible highlights with you.
From inspiring events to groundbreaking achievements, it’s been a year of growth and positive impact. Join us as we take a trip down memory lane and celebrate the moments that have defined our mission to empower and uplift through STEM education.
To our 227 Innovators and their families, and our sponsor and volunteers, THANK YOU for being a part of this incredible journey with us! ๐ก
In the spirit of camaraderie and shared ambitions, we joyously marked our 9th annual “Bonding Over Brunch” in honor of Black History Month in February! This celebration showcased our Self-eSTEM Innovatorsโ businesses, an insightful panel discussion featuring our Innovators (aged 7-17) and a distinguished professional panel. We want to give a heartfelt gratitude to our attendees who joined us in celebrating the ingenuity, brilliance and entrepreneurship of our young Innovators.
We celebrated the success of our 6th annual “Conversations in STEM” event on April 15th at the University of California, Berkeley. More than just an event, it served as a valuable opportunity for attendees to elevate their careers. The day offered professional benefits such as the opportunity to have professional headshots taken and receive 1-on-1 resume reviews. Additionally, participants engaged in a career panel, attended multiple professional development workshops, enjoyed lunch, and received custom SWAG boxes. This free and impactful event provided a day of learning, affirmations, growth, and networking. We express our gratitude to UC Berkeley Engineering and UC Berkeley Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) for hosting Self-eSTEM!
We concluded our STEM Summer Camp with a bang โ the STEM Fashion Show! Our Innovators poured their brilliance and creativity into fashion designs inspired by the week’s lessons. Leveraging digital tools and STEM concepts, attendees were there to witness as they “Ripped the Runway,” showcasing their designs and impressing our esteemed judges! Our talented Innovators not only refined the art of precision through meticulous measurements but also honed their pitch presentation skills, fostering collaborative team efforts that integrated technology. From upcycling materials to creating mesmerizing chemical reactions with dyes, they incorporated wearable technologies into their runway creations at the STEM Fashion Show. ย Additionally, our Innovators received a personal invitation to attend the SEMICON West Conference in San Francisco. There they coded air quality machines and engaged with industry professionals in the microelectronics industry.
We were thrilled to showcase our program impact at Investfest 2023! It was a star-studded event. Attendees had the opportunity to stop by our booths, to purchase Self-eSTEM swag, learn about our programming, and how to INVEST in future STEM leaders and their communities.
We celebrated our Year-End Networking Mixer & Volunteer Hack-a-thon on in Oakland, CA! ๐ Starting out with a Generative AI (Gen AI) fireside chat with Visaโs executive Sam Hamilton (the Head of Data & AI) explaining Gen AI and how it can be used for good.ย
Attendees had the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise to help enhance our robotics program and fundraising initiatives. Together, we made a difference! We express our gratitude for the enthusiastic participation and look forward to building on this success in future endeavors! ๐ฌ๐ก
We extend our gratitude to our program event sponsors: Comcast Foundation, PEARL Pledge – Pearl Milling Company, Cisco Systems Inc., Warriors Community Foundation, San Jose Sharks Community Foundation, Intuit, and Okta via Tides Foundation.ย
